Dobbie manufactures Air Release Valves in three styles:
- Single Orifice (SO)
- Double Orifice (DO)
- Double Orifice with Integrated Isolator (DOI)
The main function of Dobbie Air Release valves is to release trapped air/vacuum pressure within an enclosed pipeline system.
Air may be captured in pipelines through various sources:
- it releases from solution out of the transfer media (usually water).
- it accumulates from ingress at leaking joints and glands and other connections.
- Pipeline filling/recharging operations
Vacuum pressure is usually created within pipelines through a rapid depletion of internal pressure, which is generally caused by:
- A catastrophic pipe integrity failure
- Pipeline draining operations
The Dobbie SO, DO & DOI Air Valves serve their function by:
- Automatic bleeding of air to maintain system stability
- Efficient release of air to prevent accumulation within pipeline during filling
- Ingress of air to prevent vacuum as fluid media rapidly exits the pipeline
Trapped air accumulates in high points of a pipeline creating air pockets, this in turn diminishes flow rates and creates cavitation, decreasing efficiencies of the system and any inline pumps. To negate these deleterious effects the air must be regularly removed.
