A Fire Brigade Booster is defined in AS2419.1 as: “A connecting device enabling the fire brigade to pressurize or pump water into a fire hydrant system.”

A booster is fitted into a ‘Fire Brigade Booster Assembly” which is defined in AS2419.1 as: “A configuration of pipes, valves and fittings (inlets and outlets) for use by the fire brigade.”

The purpose of a booster is to provide a means for the fire brigade to repressurise fire systems, via inputting water from their mobile pumping appliance (i.e. fire brigade pumper truck), in the event of multiple attack hydrant use which would normally deplete outlet pressure at all hydrant connections. Such decreased pressure not only limits the capacity to effectively fight the fire but is also life threatening to fire fighting personnel.
